Kamchatka's Parks
More than a quarter of Kamchatka Province is offered protection in regional and federal parks and preserves. The most famous preserve is Kronotsky Zapovednik, known for its Valley of the Geysers, Death Valley, and Uzon Caldera. Nalychevo Nature Park, located south of Kronotsky along the Pacific Coast, protects the Nalychevo River watershed and its natural hot springs. Bystrinsky Nature Park protects larch forests and the watershed of the Bystraya (Fast) River in Central Kamchatka. Kluchevskoy Nature Park protects the environs of the Kluchevskoy Volcano - the highest cone in Eurasia. The South Kamchatka Zakaznik (this page), a federal sanctuary under Kronotsky Zapovednik, protects Kuril Lake, the largest salmon-spawning lake in Eurasia.
The area also may have the highest density of bears in the world.
